While working together in the cardiac cath lab, we, the “Two Andrews”—one an Interventional Cardiologist, the other a Medical Radiation Technologist—identified areas of our procedures that required urgent attention. For one, growing use of the radial approach meant exposure to doses of radiation well-above any other profession—even nuclear workers(!)—this in spite of the many mitigating steps already taken in the lab.
On a more practical level, the methods we used for interventional support were mostly improvised and insufficient for our needs. We therefore sought to create tools that would both keep us safe and optimize the way we conduct our procedures. This is what inspired us to develop ARMERY’s Radial Arm Boards—tools designed for and by operators, backed by research.
